The roots of BBS Manufacturing started years before it's creation in 1996. As a kid I was a skateboarder and a wood worker. In the mid eighties mini ramps were king and I think I had about as much fun building the ramps as I did skating them. When I was 13 or so I was skating with friends in an Industrial Park in Miramar and stumbled across the Uncle Wiggly factory. I was in awe. After a quick tour I can remember telling myself that building skateboards is what I wanted to do for a living.
Like most kids I stopped skating regularly when I was about 18 but remained interested in woodworking as a hobby and a career. While going to college I worked for my mom's company Quilt in a Day (a popular how-to book publisher and television show) and had my own business making Quilt Racks to sell through her outlets. I built sets for her TV show, and built Quilt Racks using all sorts of hardwoods. In my spare time I build custom furniture, mostly for myself, laminating as many different wood species as possible.
