1. General Purpose of the Position:
The Automation Controls Engineer designs, develops, and implements automated manufacturing equipment and OT (Operational Technology) solutions within the AMD group. This role defines and deploys control architectures, integrating PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and industrial networks to ensure reliable, scalable, and standardized solutions.
The engineer collaborates with Mechanical Design, NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, IT, and Operations to deliver high-performance equipment aligned with safety, cost, quality, and timeline goals, while supporting OT standardization and evolution.
2. Main Functions and Responsibilities:
• Design and develop control systems, including PLC programming, HMI development, and system integration.
• Define and implement control architectures (electrical, pneumatic, and communication) aligned with OT standards.
• Develop control logic using Structured Text (IEC 61131-3), applying OOP and TDD principles.
• Design and validate control panels, including component selection, layout, wiring, and compliance.
• Select and integrate sensors, actuators, servo drives, VFDs, robots (Epson, UR), and vision systems (Keyence, Cognex).
• Develop HMIs focused on usability, diagnostics, and efficiency.
• Integrate safety systems (safety PLCs, E-stops, interlocks) in compliance with standards.
• Configure industrial networks (EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT) and enable IIoT connectivity.
• Support project execution, supplier coordination, equipment build, debug, FAT/SAT, and production ramp-up.
• Maintain technical documentation and train end users.
• Participate in root-cause analysis, continuous improvement, and development of automation standards.
Experiencia y requisitos
3. Job Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Experience: 3–5 years in industrial automation, controls engineering, or equipment development.
• Languages: Intermediate to advanced English (spoken and written).
• Technical Skills:
– PLC programming using Structured Text (IEC 61131-3).
– Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in automation.
– HMI design and integration.
– Experience with industrial robotics and vision systems.
– Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT).
– Ability to design and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics (CAD tools).
– Knowledge of safety systems and automation standards.
– Basic mechanical design knowledge (NX, SolidWorks).
– Experience with manufacturing processes (dispensing, fastening, soldering, testing).
– Understanding of OT architectures and industrial connectivity is a plus.
