POSITION SUMMARY

The MRO Buyer manages purchasing for indirect materials, focusing on scouting new vendors, driving cost reduction through RFQs, and overseeing requisitions for consumables, spare parts, and equipment. This role is responsible for the end-to-end procurement cycle, including PO processing, tracking, and payment coordination. Additionally, they establish and maintain key inventory control parameters—such as Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs), safety buffers, and ordering thresholds—for consumable items, while developing strategies like Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) to optimize MRO procurement and ensure supply continuity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead Vendor Scouting Process: Proactively identify and evaluate new vendors through scouting and manage Requests for Quotations (RFPs) to drive continuous improvement in the supply base to increase competitive sourcing.

2. Manage Requests for Proposals (RFP), Specifications, and Agreements: Oversee RFPs, specifications, Long Term Agreements, and Service Agreements to ensure alignment with business needs and supplier capabilities.

3. PO Processing, Tracking, and Financial Flow: Execute the timely creation and processing of purchase orders (POs) from internal requisitions. Monitor and track open orders to ensure on-time delivery, proactively resolving delays. Coordinate closely with Accounts Payable and Finance to troubleshoot invoicing discrepancies and ensure seamless payment processing.

4. Inventory Parameters and Buffer Management: Define, review, and maintain data-driven purchasing parameters for consumable items. Establish optimized Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs), safety stock buffers, and reorder points to balance working capital with operational availability.

5. Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strategic, long-term relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliability and continuous improvement.

6. Sustainability and Compliance: Ensure procurement activities support company sustainability goals and comply with environmental and ethical standards.

7. Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize procurement data analytics to monitor spending, inventory turns, supplier performance, and identify cost-saving and process improvement opportunities.

8.Risk Management: Conduct supplier risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity and minimize disruptions.

9.Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, engineering, finance, and quality teams to align procurement strategies with organizational objectives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE SUMMARY:

  • Bachelor’s degree in purchasing, business, international relations, trade & compliance, logistics, supply chain management, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of procurement experience, preferably in MRO.
  • Proven experience in inventory control fundamentals, such as calculating safety stock, managing buffers, and analyzing vendor MOQs.
  • Hands-on experience managing the full PO life cycle, order tracking expediting, and payment resolution workflows.
  • Proven experience managing local and international vendors, with knowledge of financials, logistics, Incoterms, trade, & compliance.
  • Proficient in cloud-based ERP systems (SAP preferred, Oracle, JD Edwards).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to analyze vendor quotes and proposals.
  • Familiarity with MRO materials and supply chains.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in Spanish (native) and proficient in English (80%+).
